Michael "Mike" Sullivan is an American professional ice hockey coach, currently the head coach of the New York Rangers in the NHL. Prior to coaching, Sullivan had a notable playing career in the NHL, drafted by the New York Rangers in 1987. He played for multiple teams, including the San Jose Sharks, Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, and Phoenix Coyotes. He also represented the United States internationally, participating in events such as the 1997 World Championship.

In 1987, Mike Sullivan was drafted 69th overall by the New York Rangers in the NHL entry draft, but chose to stay at Boston University to finish his education.
In 1990, Mike Sullivan began an 11-year career in the National Hockey League, accumulating 54 goals, 82 assists, and 136 points in 709 games.
In 1997, Mike Sullivan represented the United States at the World Championship.
During the 2002-2003 season, Mike Sullivan started coaching professional hockey when he became the head coach of the Providence Bruins of the AHL.

On May 1, 2014, Mike Sullivan was relieved of his duties with the Vancouver Canucks organization, and subsequently joined the Chicago Blackhawks.
On June 18, 2015, Mike Sullivan was named the head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins' AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

In December 2015, Mike Sullivan took over as head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins, later leading them to back-to-back Stanley Cup championships.
On June 12, 2016, Mike Sullivan won the Stanley Cup as head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins after they defeated the San Jose Sharks. He became only the sixth coach in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup after being hired mid-season.
On December 16, 2017, Mike Sullivan recorded his 100th career win with the Penguins, becoming the fourth coach to reach this milestone for the organization.
In 2017, Mike Sullivan led the Penguins to their second consecutive Stanley Cup championship, defeating the Nashville Predators. He is the first coach to lead the Penguins to consecutive Stanley Cup championships and the only American-born head coach to win the Stanley Cup multiple times.
On July 5, 2019, Mike Sullivan signed a four-year contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
On October 16, 2021, after a 5-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks, Mike Sullivan became the winningest coach in the Penguins' history, surpassing Dan Bylsma's record with 253 wins.
In 2022, Mike Sullivan was named head coach of the United States men's national ice hockey team for the Winter Olympics, but was later replaced due to the NHL withdrawing from the Olympics.
On April 12, 2023, the Penguins missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2005-06 season after the New York Islanders defeated the Montreal Canadiens.
In the 2024-25 season, the Pittsburgh Penguins failed to qualify for the playoffs for the third straight season.
