1911: Wisconsin Law Encourages Part-Time Education

In 1911, a Wisconsin law was enacted to encourage young adults who had left high school to continue their education on a part-time basis while working full-time. Employers were mandated to allow workers time to attend classes, and students had the opportunity to participate in evening courses.

1912: Milwaukee Continuation School Opens

In 1912, the Milwaukee Continuation School was established near Mason Street and the Milwaukee River, marking the beginning of the institution that would eventually become MATC.

1916: Name Change to Milwaukee Vocational School

In 1916, the Milwaukee Continuation School was renamed the Milwaukee Vocational School, reflecting an increased emphasis on trade skills within the curriculum.

1920: Construction of New Building Begins

1948: Name Change to Milwaukee Vocational and Adult School

1951: Founding of Milwaukee Institute of Technology
