Mumbai, formerly Bombay, is the capital of Maharashtra, India, and its financial hub. With a city population of approximately 12.5 million and a metropolitan area exceeding 23 million, it's among the world's most populous. Situated on India's west coast, Mumbai boasts a deep natural harbor and is recognized as an alpha world city. It is also notable for having the highest concentration of billionaires in Asia.
In 1942, the Indian independence movement fostered the Quit India Movement at the Bombay session of the Indian National Congress.
