Nathan Eovaldi is an American professional baseball pitcher currently playing for the Texas Rangers in MLB. Prior to joining the Rangers, he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and Boston Red Sox. He is a veteran pitcher with experience on several prominent MLB teams.

In 1960, prior to Nathan Eovaldi's debut, it was noted that it had been some time since a Dodger pitcher scored a run in their debut.

In 2008, Nathan Eovaldi was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 11th round of the MLB Draft. He signed with the Dodgers, receiving a $250,000 signing bonus, foregoing his commitment to Texas A&M. He then pitched for the Gulf Coast Dodgers of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League.
In 2008, during his senior year at Alvin High School, Nathan Eovaldi received an honorable mention on Texas' All-State team, highlighting his performance in baseball.

On August 6, 2011, Nathan Eovaldi made his MLB debut as a starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He earned the win, pitching five innings, allowing only two runs and striking out seven. He also had a hit and scored a run. He became the first Dodger starter since Danny McDevitt in 1957 to start his career with four games of five innings or more while allowing two runs or fewer.

In 2011, Nathan Eovaldi was selected to the mid-season all-star game and the post-season All-Star team while playing for the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Double-A Southern League. He had a 6–5 record with a 2.62 ERA for the Lookouts, starting 19 games.
On July 25, 2012, Nathan Eovaldi, along with minor league pitcher Scott McGough, was traded to the Miami Marlins from the Los Angeles Dodgers for Hanley Ramírez and Randy Choate.
In 2012, after beginning the season with Chattanooga, Nathan Eovaldi made his first appearance of the season for the Dodgers on May 29 against the Milwaukee Brewers. He pitched 7 innings with 4 strikeouts, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs in a 1-2 loss. In 10 starts with the Dodgers, he had a 1–6 record with a 4.15 ERA.
In 2013, Nathan Eovaldi had a 4–6 record with a 3.39 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 18 starts with the Miami Marlins.
On December 19, 2014, Nathan Eovaldi, along with Garrett Jones and Domingo Germán, was traded by the Miami Marlins to the New York Yankees for Martín Prado and David Phelps.
In 2014, Nathan Eovaldi had a 6–14 record with a 4.37 ERA with the Miami Marlins. He allowed 223 hits, which was the most in the National League. He started 33 games and pitched 199+2⁄3 innings, both career highs.
On April 10, 2015, Nathan Eovaldi made his first start for the New York Yankees against the Boston Red Sox, pitching 5+1⁄3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, resulting in a no decision as the Yankees lost 6-5 in 19 innings.
On August 16, 2016, it was announced that Nathan Eovaldi would miss the remainder of the season due to a torn flexor tendon and partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
On February 14, 2017, Nathan Eovaldi signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Tampa Bay Rays, which included a $2 million club option for the 2018 season.
After undergoing Tommy John surgery in August 2016, Nathan Eovaldi was expected to miss the 2017 season.
On March 28, 2018, Nathan Eovaldi was diagnosed with "loose bodies" in his elbow and was ruled out indefinitely. This posed a challenge to his pitching career.
On July 25, 2018, the Tampa Bay Rays traded Nathan Eovaldi to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Jalen Beeks.
On December 6, 2018, Nathan Eovaldi signed a four-year, $68 million contract to return to the Boston Red Sox after filing for free agency following their World Series victory.
During the 2018 playoffs, Nathan Eovaldi played a key role for the Red Sox, including pitching seven innings in Game 3 of the Division Series against the New York Yankees and six innings in Game 3 of the League Championship Series against the Houston Astros. He also pitched 1+1⁄3 innings of relief in Game 5 as Boston clinched the series win.
Going into the 2018 season, the Tampa Bay Rays exercised their $2 million club option on Nathan Eovaldi's contract.

In 2019, Nathan Eovaldi began the season with a 6.00 ERA in four starts before being placed on the injured list on April 20 due to a "loose body" in his elbow, requiring surgery. He made 23 appearances overall, with a 5.99 ERA and a 2–1 record.
For the 2020 season, Nathan Eovaldi was named Boston's Opening Day starter. He got the win in that game. On August 29, Eovaldi was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right calf strain. He appeared in nine games overall, compiling a 4–2 record with 3.72 ERA.
In 2021, Nathan Eovaldi was the only pitcher to throw five different pitches (four-seam fastball, slider, cut fastball, curveball, split-finger fastball) at a rate of 10% or higher.
In early November 2022, Nathan Eovaldi elected to become a free agent, marking a new phase in his baseball career.
On December 27, 2022, Nathan Eovaldi signed a two-year contract with the Texas Rangers, including a vesting player option for a third year, guaranteeing him $34 million.
In 2022, Nathan Eovaldi was Boston's Opening Day starter for the third year in a row. He was placed on the injured list with lower-back inflammation on June 12 and later returned to the injured list on August 23 due to right shoulder inflammation. He compiled a 6–3 record with a 3.87 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 20 starts.
In 2023, Nathan Eovaldi started Games 1 and 5 of the World Series, securing the win in the decisive Game 5. The Rangers won the World Series for the first time. Eovaldi was the ace of the Rangers' starting pitching rotation during the 2023 postseason, winning 5 of his 6 starts.
In 2023, Nathan Eovaldi was a World Series champion with the Texas Rangers, and he was selected as an All-Star.
On November 4, 2024, Nathan Eovaldi declined his player option for the 2025 season, making him a free agent.
On April 1, 2025, Nathan Eovaldi threw a 1–0 shutout against the Cincinnati Reds, achieving the first Maddux shutout of the 2025 season, allowing four hits and striking out eight batters in fewer than 100 pitches.
