Ross Chastain was born on December 4, 1992.

In 2018, Chastain began the Xfinity season with a top-ten finish at Daytona and participated in his first Cup race of the year in Atlanta. He expanded his Cup schedule, running most races except for Sonoma. Chastain achieved a career-best Xfinity finish at Iowa Speedway, securing a fourth-place finish. He also participated in truck series races with Beaver Motorsports. At Mid-Ohio, a post-race altercation occurred between Chastain and Joey Gase, resulting in Gase's car swerving toward Chastain on pit road. Chastain also participated in the World of Westgate 200, driving the Premium Motorsports No. 15 truck and achieving a seventh-place finish, marking Premium's best result in all three NASCAR national series.
In January 2019, Chastain joined Niece Motorsports for a part-time role in the Truck Series, sharing the No. 45 Silverado with Reid Wilson. He also announced his return to JD Motorsports' No. 4 ride for 30 Xfinity races. In addition, Chastain revealed plans to compete in three races with Kaulig Racing's No. 10 entry.
On May 10, 2019, Chastain secured his first NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series victory at Kansas Speedway in the Digital Ally 250. Despite a near-spin with 20 laps remaining, he recovered and took the lead after Stewart Friesen ran out of fuel.
In November 2019, Chastain achieved his second top-five finish of the year, securing second place behind Christopher Bell at Texas Motor Speedway after leading for 29 laps.
In 2019, Chastain won the Circle K Firecracker 250 at Daytona driving for Kaulig Racing, with teammates Justin Haley and AJ Allmendinger finishing behind him (although Allmendinger was later disqualified). He followed this with a dominant win at Pocono Raceway in the Truck Series, dedicating the victory to Kaulig crew chief Nick Harrison, who passed away the previous week.

On February 19, 2020, Roush Fenway Racing announced that Ross Chastain would be the replacement driver for Ryan Newman, who was injured, in the team's No. 6 Ford starting with the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas.
