Tyler Perry is an American actor, filmmaker, and playwright known for creating and performing the character Mabel 'Madea' Simmons, a tough elderly woman. He also portrays her brother Joe Simmons and nephew Brian Simmons. Perry's work spans from traditional filmmaking to filmed stage productions, many of which have been adapted into feature films. Madea first appeared in Perry's play 'I Can Do Bad All by Myself' in 1999 in Chicago.
