CBS Sports

CBS Sports is the sports programming division of Paramount Skydance, responsible for broadcasts on CBS, Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, and CBS Sports HQ. Headquartered in New York City, CBS Sports produces content from the CBS Broadcast Center. It serves as the flagship sports property for the CBS Entertainment Group.

April 11, 1955: Formation of CBS Sports

On April 11, 1955, CBS Sports was formed to manage the company's sports broadcasting portfolio.

1981: Previous Logo

CBS Sports' previous logo dated back to 1981, before being replaced in 2015.

2002: Launch as National College Sports Network

In 2002, the sports channel that would become CBS Sports Network launched as the National College Sports Network.

2003: Renamed College Sports Television

In 2003, the National College Sports Network was renamed College Sports Television.

2004: CBS Acquires SportsLine.com

In 2004, CBS purchased SportsLine.com, which is now part of Paramount Streaming as CBSSports.com.

2005: Acquisition by Viacom

In 2005, Viacom, CBS's then-parent company, acquired College Sports Television.

2008: Renamed CBS College Sports Network

In 2008, College Sports Television was renamed CBS College Sports Network.

2011: Rebranding as CBS Sports Network

In 2011, CBS rebranded CBS College Sports Network as CBS Sports Network, shifting focus to include mainstream and minor professional sports alongside college sports.

September 4, 2012: CBS Sports Radio Launch

On September 4, 2012, CBS Sports Radio was launched, featuring hourly sports news updates.

January 2, 2013: Full Programming Schedule for CBS Sports Radio

On January 2, 2013, CBS Sports Radio began offering a full 24-hour schedule of sports talk programming.

August 31, 2013: Graphics and Aspect Ratio Update

On August 31, 2013, CBS Sports rolled out its new graphics and animation package and switched to a 16:9 aspect ratio for all sports programming.

November 30, 2015: New CBS Sports Logo Unveiled

On November 30, 2015, CBS Sports unveiled a new rectangular logo, which premiered on-air during its coverage of Super Bowl 50.

2017: CBS Radio Merged With Entercom

In 2017, CBS Radio merged with Entercom (now Audacy).

February 26, 2018: Launch of CBS Sports HQ

On February 26, 2018, CBS Sports launched CBS Sports HQ, a 24-hour streaming sports news channel.

2019: CBS Withdraws Permission for the use of the Eyemark

At the end of 2019, CBS withdrew permission for the use of the Eyemark by CBSSR.

October 2020: Unified Branding Scheme Announced

In October 2020, CBS announced that all of its major divisions would adopt a unified branding scheme.

April 2024: CBS Issues Cease and Desist Order

In April 2024, CBS issued a cease and desist order to CBS Sports Radio affiliates, instructing them to stop using the CBS trademark by April 15.

April 2, 2026: Merger Announcement: Paramount Skydance to Merge CBS Sports and TNT Sports

On April 2, 2026, Paramount Skydance announced plans to merge CBS Sports and TNT Sports, pending the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

2037: Expiration of CBS Trademark License

CBS/Paramount Global has allowed use of the CBS name and Eyemark logo under a limited license to expire in late 2037.
