CBS Sports is the sports programming division of Paramount Skydance, broadcasting on CBS, Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, and CBS Sports HQ. Headquartered in New York City, it produces sports broadcasts and related content for television and streaming platforms.
On April 11, 1955, CBS Sports was formed and began to acquire premier sports properties, including the NFL, Big Ten football, NCAA Division I college basketball, PGA Tour golf, the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship, SailGP, and the UEFA Champions League.
The previous CBS Sports logo, which was replaced in 2015, had been in use since 1981.
In 2002, the National College Sports Network was launched, which was a sports-oriented digital cable and satellite channel.
In 2003, the National College Sports Network was renamed to College Sports Television.
In 2004, CBS purchased SportsLine.com, which became part of Paramount Streaming.
In 2005, Viacom, CBS's then-parent company, acquired College Sports Television.
In 2008, College Sports Television was renamed CBS College Sports Network.
In 2011, CBS rebranded CBS College Sports Network as CBS Sports Network to include mainstream sports, including coverage of minor professional sports leagues.
On September 4, 2012, CBS Sports Radio was launched, featuring hourly sports news updates.
On January 2, 2013, CBS Sports Radio began offering a full 24-hour schedule of sports talk programming.
On August 31, 2013, CBS Sports rolled out its previous graphics and animation package initially used in Super Bowl XLVII. It also switched to a 16:9 aspect ratio letterbox presentation for all sports programming.
On November 30, 2015, CBS Sports unveiled a new rectangular logo, which premiered on-air during its coverage of Super Bowl 50. It was intended to provide consistency between the division's platforms and replaced a logo that had been in use since 1981.
At the end of 2019, permission for the use of the Eyemark by CBSSR was withdrawn.
In October 2020, CBS announced that all of its major divisions would adopt a unified branding scheme, including the CBS eye logo, new sonic branding, and TT Norms Pro typeface.
In early April 2024, CBS issued a cease and desist order to affiliates, instructing them to stop using the CBS trademark by April 15, 2024.
CBS/Paramount Global has allowed use of the CBS name and Eyemark logo under a limited license to expire in late 2037.
