CBS Sports

CBS Sports is the sports programming division of Paramount Skydance, broadcasting on CBS, Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, and CBS Sports HQ. Headquartered in New York City, it produces sports broadcasts and related content. It serves as the flagship for sports-related programming within the CBS Entertainment Group.

April 11, 1955: CBS Sports Formation

On April 11, 1955, CBS Sports was formed. Its premier sports properties include the NFL, Big Ten football, NCAA Division I college basketball, PGA Tour golf, the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship, SailGP and the UEFA Champions League.

1981: Existing Logo Date

The existing logo that CBS Sports replaced in 2015, dated back to 1981.

2002: Launch as National College Sports Network

In 2002, CBS Sports Network was launched as the National College Sports Network.

2003: Rename to College Sports Television

In 2003, National College Sports Network was renamed as College Sports Television.

2004: CBS Purchases SportsLine.com

In 2004, CBS purchased SportsLine.com. Today, CBSSports.com is part of Paramount Streaming.

2005: Viacom Acquisition

In 2005, CBS's then-parent company Viacom acquired College Sports Television.

2008: Rename to CBS College Sports Network

In 2008, the network was renamed CBS College Sports Network.

2011: Rebrand as CBS Sports Network

In 2011, CBS rebranded CBS College Sports Network as CBS Sports Network to include mainstream sports, although college sports are still aired frequently by the network.

September 4, 2012: CBS Sports Radio Launch

On September 4, 2012, CBS Sports Radio launched with hourly sports news updates.

January 2, 2013: Full Programming Schedule

On January 2, 2013, CBS Sports Radio began offering a full 24-hour schedule of sports talk programming.

August 31, 2013: Graphics and Aspect Ratio Update

On August 31, 2013, CBS Sports rolled out its previous graphics and animation package that was first used in the network's coverage of Super Bowl XLVII. Additionally, CBS Sports switched to a 16:9 aspect ratio letterbox presentation used for all sports programming.

November 30, 2015: New Rectangular Logo Unveiled

On November 30, 2015, CBS Sports unveiled a new rectangular logo, which premiered on-air during its coverage of Super Bowl 50, and was intended to provide consistency between the division's platforms.

2017: CBS Radio Merged with Entercom

In 2017, CBS Radio merged with Entercom (now Audacy).

February 26, 2018: CBS Sports HQ Launched

On February 26, 2018, CBS Sports launched CBS Sports HQ, a 24-hour streaming sports news channel modeled after CBS News's streaming news channel.

2019: Permission Withdrawn for the Eyemark

At the end of 2019, CBS/Paramount Global withdrew permission for CBSSR to use the Eyemark.

October 2020: Unified Branding Scheme Announcement

In October 2020, CBS announced that all of its major divisions would adopt a unified branding scheme built around the components of the CBS eye logo, a new sonic branding, and TT Norms Pro as a corporate typeface.

April 2024: Cease and Desist Order

In early April 2024, CBS issued a cease and desist order to all remaining affiliates, instructing them to cease using the CBS trademark by April 15.

April 2, 2026: Paramount Skydance to Merge CBS Sports and TNT Sports

On April 2, 2026, Paramount Skydance announced plans to merge CBS Sports and TNT Sports once the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is completed.

2037: License Expiration Date

In 2037, the limited license for Audacy to use the CBS name and Eyemark logo is set to expire.
