In November 2004, the FasTracks transit expansion package was approved, providing RTD with the funding to construct the 23.5-mile (37.8 km) line to Denver International Airport.

November 25, 2015: Westin Hotel Opened

On November 25, 2015, the 519-room Westin hotel opened above and straddling the station. The project also included an 82,000 square-foot, open-air plaza and achieved a LEED Platinum rating.

April 22, 2016: Station Opened

On April 22, 2016, the Denver Airport station opened along with the rest of the A Line.

February 2022: Future Expansion

As of February 2022, the two tracks and island platform at Denver Airport station are not aligned in the middle of the right-of-way to accommodate future expansion, however, there has been no word of any such proposal.
