In April 1995, KHNL formed its longest-running news department to date as a Fox affiliate with the launch of a 9 p.m. newscast.
On January 1, 1996, KHNL joined NBC and began broadcasting a weekday morning newscast.
In January 1996, the simulcast of KHNL's 9 p.m. newscast became exclusive to KFVE.
On August 18, 2009, MCG Capital Corporation and Raycom Media entered into a shared services agreement, combining the operations of KGMB, KHNL, and KFVE.
On November 7, 2009, a report in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin revealed that Raycom would pay MCG Capital Corporation $22 million for KGMB.
In May 2020, CBS Sports Radio affiliate KHKA began simulcasting Hawaii News Now broadcasts.
