Lazio, also known as Latium, is an administrative region in central Italy. With a population of over 5.7 million and a GDP exceeding €212 billion annually, it's the second most populous and second largest regional economy in Italy, following Lombardy. Rome, the capital city of both Lazio and Italy, is located within the region.
In 1927, the territory of the province of Rieti, which previously belonged to Umbria and Abruzzo, was incorporated into Lazio.
