Mark Hoppus is an American musician, record producer, and songwriter, best known as the co-lead vocalist, bassist, and co-founder of the iconic rock band Blink-182. He holds the distinction of being the sole constant member, appearing on every Blink-182 album. His contributions extend beyond performance, encompassing songwriting and production work within the music industry.
In 1988, Mark Hoppus recorded a live demo with a group named The Attic Children, featuring covers of The Cure songs.
After graduating from Burroughs High School in 1990, Mark Hoppus began playing in a band called of All Things with two friends, covering songs and writing original punk numbers.
In August 1992, Anne Hoppus introduced Mark Hoppus to Tom DeLonge. They immediately started playing music together. Hoppus broke both ankles trying to impress DeLonge.
In 1992, Mark Hoppus moved to San Diego to attend California State University San Marcos. His sister introduced him to Tom DeLonge, and together they formed the band Blink-182 with drummer Scott Raynor.
In 1993, Blink recorded "Flyswatter" and began playing their irreverent live show at local all-ages venue SOMA. They also recorded 3 more demos and signed to Cargo Music on a trial basis.
In 1995, Blink's first album, "Cheshire Cat", was released and the band embarked on their first national tour, the GoodTimes tour, and began building a devoted following.
In 1996, MCA Records signed Blink-182 and would co-distribute their next release, "Dude Ranch".
In 1997, Blink-182 released their sophomore album, "Dude Ranch", co-distributed by MCA. The album featured the hit song "Dammit", which was written by Hoppus.
In the summer of 1998, Scott Raynor was fired and Travis Barker joined Blink-182.
