After avenging a previous loss by teaming with Raven, he maintained a winning streak that included competing multiple times per day between March 24 and March 27. This culminated on March 28, 2005, when he defeated Darren Burridge to become the inaugural IWW International Heavyweight Champion in a tournament held in County Kildare.
In 2005, Sheamus (then O'Shaunessy) made significant appearances for British Championship Wrestling, losing to Jay Phoenix in March and later defeating the wrestler Wolfgang via countout during a return visit in September.
In April 2006, while competing in Wales for the Celtic Wrestling promotion, Sheamus (then known as O'Shaunessy) challenged for the organization's top title but was ultimately defeated by the reigning champion, Chris Recall.

On June 30, 2009, during an episode of ECW, Stephen Farrelly made his surprise professional wrestling debut under the ring name Sheamus. Appearing as a villainous character, he successfully defeated his opponent, Oliver John, to begin his tenure on the brand.
