Sherrod Brown is an American politician who served as a United States Senator for Ohio from 2007 to 2025. A Democrat, Brown previously served as a U.S. Representative for Ohio's 13th congressional district (1993-2007) and as Ohio's Secretary of State (1983-1991). His political career began in 1975 as a state representative. Brown is considered a progressive and populist within the Democratic Party and is the most recent Democrat to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate.

In June 2023, NBC News reported that Sherrod Brown had been late paying his Cleveland property tax bill multiple times and had claimed owner-occupant tax credits on properties in two different Ohio counties. He subsequently paid the delinquent bill and repaid Franklin County.
