The Bay Bridge Series, a baseball rivalry between the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants, gets its name from the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge that connects the two cities. October 17, 1989: Earthquake Interrupts 1989 World Series

On October 17, 1989, minutes before Game 3 of the 1989 World Series, an earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale struck the San Francisco Bay Area, causing damage to Candlestick Park and the Oakland Coliseum. The series was delayed for 10 days, the longest interval between games in World Series history. It also caused the collapse of a portion of the Bay Bridge.

In 2024, the Bay Bridge Series ended due to the A’s relocating to Las Vegas (while temporarily relocating to Sacramento).

2028: A's Relocation to Las Vegas

In 2028, the A's are scheduled to relocate to Las Vegas (after temporarily relocating to West Sacramento), leading to the end of the Bay Bridge series as it was known.
