Doug Moe was an American basketball player and coach. A standout small forward at North Carolina, accusations of point shaving marred his college career despite being cleared of fixing games. Blackballed from the NBA, Moe played in Italy before finding success in the ABA. He was a three-time ABA All-Star and won a championship with the Oakland Oaks in 1969, showcasing his talent and resilience in a league that welcomed him.
In 1967, Doug Moe joined the newly formed ABA with the New Orleans Buccaneers for $5,000 alongside Larry Brown. Moe was named ABA All-Star.
In 1969, Doug Moe played for the Carolina Cougars and was named the team's MVP.
In 1969, Doug Moe won the ABA championship with the Oakland Oaks.
In 1979, Doug Moe's team, the San Antonio Spurs, repeated as division champions and won their first-ever playoff series since moving to San Antonio. They faced the Bullets in the conference finals and lost.
In 1981-82, the Nuggets led the league in scoring and set the NBA record for most points per game in a season, scoring 126.48. The team also became the only NBA team to score 100 or more points in all 82 games of a season.
In 1982-83, the Nuggets' Alex English and Kiki VanDeWeghe finished first and second in the NBA in scoring, respectively, a feat which has not been achieved since.
On December 13, 1983, Doug Moe's Denver Nuggets lost 186–184 to the Detroit Pistons in triple overtime. The 370 combined points remains the highest-scoring game in NBA history.
