Granit Xhaka is a Swiss professional footballer. He plays as a midfielder and captains both Premier League club Sunderland and the Switzerland national team. In the 2006–07 season he was member of the U-15 team that won the Swiss championship, creating a record for eternity.
In the 2007–08 season, Xhaka was a member of the U-16 team that won the Swiss championship, remaining undefeated throughout the entire season.
In 2009, Xhaka participated in the Under-17 World Cup in Nigeria. The Swiss team won the tournament.
On May 15, 2011, Xhaka scored his first Super League goal for Basel and at the end of the 2010–11 league season, Xhaka won the championship title with the team.

On October 15, 2023, during UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying, Xhaka equalled Heinz Hermann's record of 118 appearances for the Swiss national team.
In 2023, Xhaka returned to the Bundesliga, joining Bayer Leverkusen and helped the club to their first-ever league title in his debut season.
