Vasyl Slipak was a Ukrainian baritone opera singer who gained recognition for his performances in France, including at the Paris Opera and Opéra Bastille. He received the 'Best Male Performance' award for his rendition of the Toreador Song. Slipak volunteered in the Ukrainian army and was killed in action during the war in Donbas near Luhanske by a Russian sniper. Posthumously, he was awarded the Hero of Ukraine title for his service as a volunteer soldier.

Starting on November 24, 2013, with the beginning of Euromaidan, Vasyl Slipak led the volunteer movement in France, coordinating public actions in support of Ukraine. He supported the Paris Euromaidan and sent humanitarian aid to the Maidan in Ukraine, collected money, and arranged charity concerts.
On February 16, 2014, Vasyl Slipak organized and held the Artmaidan-manifestation in Paris, which featured performances by musicians, singers, artists, and actors to support Ukrainian protesters.
On February 19, 2014, Vasyl Slipak was among the activists who organized a commemoration near the Ukrainian embassy in Paris for the people who were shot on February 18, 2014, on Instytutska Street in Kyiv.
On March 5, 2014, Vasyl Slipak held another public demonstration in Paris against Russia's aggression. The demonstration, organized by the Paris Euromaidan Association, picketed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France, urging diplomatic action to stop Russia's interference in Ukraine.
On July 12, 2014, Vasyl Slipak, along with opera singers Gosha Kovalinska, Guillaume Dussault, and Thierry de Marsley, created the Foundation "Opera Performers for Children" (a humanitarian non-profit organization) to support Ukrainian children affected by the war, providing shelter, food, and assistance.

However, on June 29, 2016, while performing a combat mission as a machine gunner in the 1st Assault Company of the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps "Right Sector" (DUK PS), he died in battle around 6:00 a.m. from an enemy bullet fired by a sniper using a large-caliber 12.7 mm rifle.
On June 10, 2016, Vasyl Slipak organized the International March "Stop Putin War in Ukraine!", in which about 30 countries participated, and which had a great impact on the decision to extend European Union sanctions against the Russian Federation.
On June 29, 2016, at approximately 6 a.m., Vasyl Slipak was killed by a sniper shot near Luhanske.
On June 30, 2016, a farewell ceremony was held for Vasyl Slipak in Dnipro. Hundreds of people attended the mourning ceremony in the regional hospital named after I.I. Mechnikov. Vasyl Slipak was eulogized by the archpriest of the UOC KP, Fr. Dmytro Povorotny. After the farewell, the singer's body was sent to Lviv.
On July 1, 2016, a memorial service led by Bishop Venedikt was held in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Lviv. Thousands of Lviv residents came to pay their respects to Vasyl Slipak. The service was attended by several religious figures, who prayed for the repose of his soul.
Thanks to funds raised by Vasyl Slipak and others in 2015, war orphans were invited to vacation in Ukraine in the summer and fall of 2016, providing them with respite and support.
Since 2017, the Vasyl Slipak International Competition of Young Vocalists has been held in his honor in Lviv.
On November 22, 2018, the installation of a monument on the grave of Vasyl Slipak was completed at the Lychakiv cemetery. The Department of Capital Construction of the Lviv Regional State Administration was the customer, and FOP Volodymyr Kryskiv and his team were the executors. Artistic decoration was done by Mr. Andriy and Volodymyr Stepanik. The monument is made of Tan granite.
In 2018, Vasyl Slipak's life was the subject of the documentary film Myth.
On June 29, 2019, the monument on Vasyl Slipak's grave was consecrated. Petro Poroshenko, the fifth president of Ukraine, visited the Lychakiv cemetery to honor his memory on the anniversary of his death.
