Indio is a city located in Riverside County, California, specifically within the Coachella Valley in Southern California's Colorado Desert region. It's situated about 125 miles east of Los Angeles, 23 miles east of Palm Springs, and 98 miles west of Blythe, California. Its location makes it a notable city within the Coachella Valley.
Sabrina Carpenter launched Coachella with a memorable "Sabrinawood" performance, featuring surprise guests and maximalist pop. Her set was critically acclaimed for its dazzling display.
On July 6, 1905, Indio recorded its highest temperature ever at 125 °F (51.7 °C).
In 1907, the USDA's Date Station was established in Indio, facilitating scientific research on dates and enabling local farmers to excel in date crop production in the Coachella Valley.
The Coachella Valley History Museum Home includes the 1909 Schoolhouse, alongside other historical buildings and exhibits.
The Indio Date Palm, was an early paper established in 1912 by John Winfield (J. Win) Wilson.

Since 1947, the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival has been held each February at the Riverside County Fairgrounds, celebrating the Coachella Valley's date fruit crop.
The College of the Desert, a two-year community college, has served the Coachella Valley since 1958.
In 1983, the Indio hospital (renamed John F. Kennedy) opened in a new location on land donated by hospital co-founder Dr. Reynaldo J. Carreon.
In the fall of 1996, the Indio Chamber of Commerce formed a committee to develop a Historic Mural Project to help revitalize the local economy. By the end of 1996, local businessman Bruce Clark, who was instrumental in promoting Historic U.S. Route 99, maintained a website on Historic Route 99 and brought the mural idea forward again after seeing the success of a similar local program in 29 Palms.
The Tamale Festival held Dec. 2-3, 2000, held one Guinness World Record as the largest tamale festival (120,000 in attendance).
Since 2001, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has been an annual event, bringing notable music acts to Indio.
In 2002, C.O.D opened a campus facility in the Riverside County Employment Developmental Center located on Monroe Street.
In 2002, the JFK hospital expanded and opened a new maternity center as part of a hospital expansion plan for more surgical rooms, intensive care units and a new concrete emergency heliport.

In 2016, Goldenvoice organized Desert Trip, a 3-day mega concert featuring The Rolling Stones, The Who, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Roger Waters, and Neil Young, held on October 7–9 and 14–16 at the same venue as the Coachella Music Festival.
In 2016, the Indio Police Department was one of 15 law enforcement agencies chosen to participate in President Barack Obama's 21st Century Policing Task Force. The Indio Police Department was recognized for its achievements in community engagement.
In 2018, Loma Linda University Children's Health – Indio opened and began serving approximately 150 children per week.
