Monster Jam

Monster Jam is a live motorsport event tour that started in 1992, operated by Feld Entertainment and sanctioned by the United States Hot Rod Association. Primarily held in North America, the events feature monster truck racing, two-wheel skills competitions, and freestyle competitions as the main attractions. The format of individual events can vary but these core competitions remain central.

1992: Series Beginning

In 1992, the Monster Jam series began as a live motorsport event tour operated by Feld Entertainment. It's sanctioned under the United States Hot Rod Association.

2000: Competitive Season Start

From 2000, Monster Jam's competitive season began in January and ended in March, with the World Finals in Las Vegas every year, with exhibition shows continuing into the summer and fall months.

2000: World Finals Location

From 2000, the World Finals were held annually at Sam Boyd Stadium in Whitney, Nevada for 19 years.

November 13, 2007: Monster Jam Video Game Release

On November 13, 2007, Activision released the third Monster Jam video game.

2007: CBS Sports Airings

From 2007, season previews and World Finals recap packages occasionally aired on CBS as part of the CBS Sports Spectacular until 2012.

October 28, 2008: Monster Jam: Urban Assault Release

On October 28, 2008, Activision released Monster Jam: Urban Assault, a sequel to the 2007 game.

November 9, 2010: Monster Jam: Path of Destruction Release

On November 9, 2010, Monster Jam: Path of Destruction was released.

2012: CBS Sports Airings End

Season previews and World Finals recap packages occasionally aired on CBS as part of the CBS Sports Spectacular from 2007 until 2012.

2014: FS1 and FS2 Airings

From 2014, FS1 and FS2 aired events from the Monster Jam series until 2018.

June 17, 2015: Monster Jam Battlegrounds Release

On June 17, 2015, Monster Jam Battlegrounds was released as a download on Xbox Live and Steam.

2015: Arena and Stadium Tours Debut

In 2015, Monster Jam debuted an arena tour featuring 8 drivers and started its first stadium tour, featuring 16 drivers competing each weekend on Fox Sports 1 for points.

October 25, 2016: Monster Jam: Crush It! Release

On October 25, 2016, Monster Jam: Crush It! was released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

2016: Arena Series Split

In 2016, the arena series was split into two series, east and west, with the winner of each tour getting an invitation to Monster Jam World Finals 17.

October 31, 2017: Monster Jam: Crush It! Nintendo Switch Release

On October 31, 2017, Monster Jam: Crush It! was released on Nintendo Switch.

2017: Two-Wheel Skills Competition Introduction

In late 2017, the two-wheel skills competition was introduced to Monster Jam events, where trucks perform their best moves on two wheels, and attendees vote for the winner.

February 15, 2018: World Finals Venue Rotation Announcement

On February 15, 2018, Monster Jam announced a new format where the World Finals would rotate venues annually, starting with World Finals XX.

2018: FS1 and FS2 Airings End

FS1 and FS2 aired events from the Monster Jam series from 2014 until 2018.

2018: Mattel Contract End

Monster Jam and Mattel's contract ended in 2018.

2018: Competitive Season End in March

Until 2018, Monster Jam's competitive season ended in March, with the World Finals in Las Vegas every year, with exhibition shows continuing into the summer and fall months.

January 2019: Spin Master Toy Production

In January 2019, Spin Master began producing Monster Jam toys.

June 25, 2019: Monster Jam Steel Titans Release

On June 25, 2019, Monster Jam Steel Titans was released on the PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

2019: NBC Sports Airings Begin

Beginning in 2019, NBC Sports started airing the Monster Jam show on NBCSN.

2019: Removal of Free-Standing Crush Cars

In 2019, free-standing crush cars were officially removed from Monster Jam events.

2019: Recaps of Previous Events Recorded

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Monster Jam began posting hour-long recaps of previous events recorded in 2019 and 2020, such as the 2019 All-Star Challenge, on their official YouTube channel.

2019: Competitive Season End Change

Since 2019, the Monster Jam season begins in January but ends in May with the World Finals held in Orlando, with exhibition shows continuing until the end of the year.

January 8, 2020: Hall of Fame Announcement

On January 8, 2020, Monster Jam announced the establishment of a Hall of Fame.

January 11, 2020: Inaugural Hall of Fame Class Announcement

On January 11, 2020, Dennis Anderson and Scott Douglass were announced as the inaugural class of the new Monster Jam Hall of Fame at a live event at Raymond James Stadium.

2020: Freestyle Competition Rule Change

In 2020, Monster Jam introduced a rule in the freestyle competition requiring trucks to complete 30 seconds to qualify for a score, otherwise receiving a score of 0. The winner continues to be determined by attendee voting.

2020: YouTube Subscription Membership Program

In 2020, Monster Jam introduced a subscription membership program for YouTube featuring videos of past events. New membership videos are posted each week.

2020: World Finals Postponement

World Finals XXI, originally scheduled for May 2–3, 2020, at Camping World Stadium, was postponed to May 20-21, 2022 due to public health concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

February 27, 2021: Inaugural Hall of Fame Induction

On February 27, 2021, Dennis Anderson and Scott Douglass were inducted into the Monster Jam Hall of Fame during halftime of a show at Camping World Stadium.

February 28, 2021: Hall of Fame 2021 Class Announcement

On February 28, 2021, Gary Porter and Mike Wales were announced as part of the Hall of Fame 2021 Class.

March 2, 2021: Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 Release

On March 2, 2021, Monster Jam Steel Titans 2 was released for the same platforms as the first game.

October 23, 2021: Porter and Wales Hall of Fame Induction

On October 23, 2021, Gary Porter and Mike Wales were inducted into the Monster Jam Hall of Fame during a show at NRG Stadium.

2021: Limited Tour Offerings

In 2021, only one Monster Jam tour was offered, the Stadium Tour, consisting of seven rounds over five venues, similar to the 2021 AMA Supercross Championship.

2022: Rescheduled World Finals XXI

Due to postponement from 2020, World Finals XXI occurred in 2022 at Camping World Stadium.

2022: Tour Structure

In 2022, the Monster Jam calendar featured three arena tours with 8 drivers each, with each tour's winner receiving a spot at Monster Jam World Finals XXI in Orlando, and two stadium tours, each with 14 drivers competing for one spot in Monster Jam World Finals XXI.

February 15, 2023: Move to MAVTV

On February 15, 2023, it was announced that Monster Jam would be moving to MAVTV with a multi-year deal.

July 1, 2023: World Finals XXII

World Finals XXII occurred on July 1, 2023, at Nissan Stadium.

2023: Monster Jam World Finals XXII Event

In 2023, the Monster Jam tour featured 110 events with each champion receiving an automatic bid to the Monster Jam World Finals XXII event which was held in Nashville, Tennessee. Colt Stephens and ThunderROARus were the Target Freestyle champions, Tristan England and Earth Shaker were the BKT Racing champions, and Tyler Menninga was the Great Clips Two-Wheel Skills champion.

April 2024: YouTube Livestreaming

Since April 2024, Monster Jam events have been live-streamed on the Monster Jam YouTube channel.

May 2024: First Livestreamed World Finals Event

In May 2024, the first live-streamed Monster Jam World Finals event occurred on YouTube.

May 18, 2024: World Finals XXIII

World Finals XXIII was held on May 18, 2024, at SoFi Stadium.

August 2024: Fictionalized Film Announcement

In August 2024 at the D23 expo event, a fictionalized Monster Jam film version was announced to go into production by Walt Disney Pictures, starring Dwayne Johnson and produced by his company, Seven Bucks Productions.

2024: FAST Channel Launch

In 2024, a Monster Jam FAST channel was launched, and is available on Pluto TV, Vizio's WatchFree+, and Plex.

2024: Monster Jam World Finals XXIII Event

In 2024, the Monster Jam tour featured 98 events divided into multiple series. The Monster Jam World Finals XXIII were held in Greater Los Angeles, California.

March 20, 2025: FAST Channel on Roku Channel

The Monster Jam FAST channel was launched on The Roku Channel on March 20, 2025.

May 8, 2025: FAST Channel on Prime Video

The Monster Jam FAST channel was launched on Prime Video on May 8, 2025.
