Troy Murray is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played in the NHL. Currently, he serves as the color analyst for Chicago Blackhawks radio broadcasts on WGN 720. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Murray spent his formative years in St. Albert, Alberta. He had a successful career as a hockey player before transitioning to broadcasting.
In 1978, Troy Murray began playing for the St. Albert Saints of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
In 1980, Troy Murray continued to play for part of the season with the St. Albert Saints of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, and he also played briefly with the Lethbridge Broncos of the Western Hockey League.
In 1982, Troy Murray led North Dakota in scoring as a freshman and helped them capture an NCAA Title, and he was also chosen to play for Team Canada at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, where he was named team captain and led the team to a gold medal victory.
During the 1985–86 season, Troy Murray's career peaked as he scored 99 points, and he was awarded the Frank J. Selke Trophy for best defensive forward in the league that year.
In 1991-92, Troy Murray was traded to the Winnipeg Jets along with teammate Warren Rychel for Bryan Marchment and Chris Norton.
In 1992–93, Troy Murray was reacquired by the Blackhawks after a short stint with the Winnipeg Jets, where he was named team captain.
In 1994-95, Troy Murray was traded to the Ottawa Senators, where he was the only player on the team to finish with a plus rating.
