Lima

Lima, the capital and largest city of Peru, was founded in 1535. Situated in the coastal desert overlooking the Pacific Ocean and within the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac, and Lurín Rivers, it serves as Peru's political, cultural, financial, and commercial hub. Recognized as a "beta" tier city due to its geostrategic significance, Lima's metropolitan area extends across the province of Lima and into the Constitutional Province of Callao, where key infrastructure like the seaport and Jorge Chávez Airport are located. Both provinces have enjoyed regional autonomy since 2002.
